Hate Writing? 3 Other Ways How to Create Content Without a Keyboard

Not everyone is a fan of Nanowrimo and committed to writing 50,000 words in a month. For a writer, nothing is worse than staring at the blank white page for hours.

Sometimes it’s just not in us. Some of us are more natural speakers than writers.

But when it comes to content marketing, the land of the written word, we can get stuck feeling obligated to write those blog posts to have fresh, relevant content for our audience, Google and social media.

Google needs fresh content, without which your website will start losing rankings.

Ok, so what does one do if they hate writing?

I’m going to share with you my secrets on how to create content when my feet start dragging.

#1 Voice Memos / Dictation:

Every smartphone can take voice memos. If you are using iPhone, it’s called ‘Voice Memos’. You turn it on, talk, press save, and you’re done. You can upload the mp3 into your blog or get it transcribed, edited and then created several pieces of social media content from it, depending on how long the voice memo is for.

a. BONUS POINTS: Make your blog full of multimedia by using text, audio, and video to increase the engagement and entertainment factor of your content.

#2 Hire an Outside Writer:

There are many content writers and marketing agencies out there, who will create your content for you. You’ll be paying anywhere from $0.10 to $0.20 per word, depending on the industry.

    1. ALTERNATIVE: This would probably be a bit cheaper. Get someone on staff to write your content. 700 words per month should take them approximately 4 hours for research, writing, editing, & uploading.

#3 Transcribe your videos:

If you’re doing Facebook Live or any other form of video, have them transcribed using a service like Rev.com. You’ll need to edit the transcription, but it saves from having to write the entire piece from scratch.

Your content team can use the transcript as a base and create social media and other content marketing plans using the transcript.

If you wonder what we do for our content, we use a variety of these methods. Every Facebook Live we do gets transcribed and uploaded, but we also have one of our on-staff content writers do a longer-form piece once per month for a deep dive into the monthly theme.

Personally, I hate writing. My brain is going 10,000 miles a minute in different directions and sitting down to focus on one thing is almost torture. So creating the FB lives and then getting one quality piece written by someone else solves my content creation challenges.

It doesn’t have to be a mountain. Break down your goals, find the roadblocks, come up with solutions and execute. Five hours per month is all you need for a solid content marketing plan.
